Compounding

We have moved our compounding lab to Riverstone Pharmacy located on the Riverstone Medical Campus. We have renamed it Riverstone Compounding Services and are looking forward to the changes and challenges being on a medical campus will present to us!

We love compounding for our patients because the quality of our patients lives is one of our top concerns and we feel that if a prescription is interfering with someone’s daily activities, is not working properly, or is dreaded being taken, we want to help!  As a compounding pharmacy, we come up with customized solutions for the individual needs of patients and physicians, giving each customer the kind of personal attention that many other pharmacies don’t offer.  We are dedicated to providing immediate service of customized prescriptions.

What is compounding?

Pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing customized medications for patients.  Working closely with physicians and patients, a pharmacist can compound medications to meet specific patient needs.

Why compound medications?

The most important benefit compounding offers is for those patients who may have difficulty taking or responding to commercially available medications.  Some people are allergic or sensitive to preservatives and dyes, or are non-compliant to standard drug strengths.  Others may have a hard time swallowing a pill, or react adversely to a medicine’s taste.  With a physician’s consent, a compounding pharmacist can change the strength of a medication, alter its form to make it easier for the patient to ingest, or add flavor to make it more likable.  The pharmacist can also prepare the medication using several unique delivery systems, such as a sublingual troche or lozenge, a lollipop, or a transdermal gel.

What prescriptions can we compound?

Almost any kind.  Compounded prescriptions are ideal for any patient requiring unique dosages and/or delivery devices, which can take the form of solutions, suppositories, sprays, oral rinses, lollipops, and even as transdermal sticks.  Click here for more information on dosage forms.
